This Week:
It’s the end of Series 5…and possibly R5 Central for all of 2010?! To take things out, Mike salvages what is left of this much-delayed episode by tag-teaming with Paul “Igadevil” Sullivan to have a free-form discussion about Kikaider The Animation–is it truly as controversial as the fans made it out to be, is it even worth the trouble? We’ll try to figure it out here!

PRODUCTION NOTES:
-Continuity: The discussion with Paul was recorded on September 20th, 2009 with hopes of getting the show out by November. This of course, did not happen as the other reviews proved to be troublesome to finalize. The final mix of this episode took place January 4-6th, 2010. And yes, I know we went all over the map with this discussion. Hopefully, you still enjoyed it!

-To reassure you all, THE SHOW IS NOT ENDING, NOR HAS ANYTHING BAD HAPPENED TO ME PERSONALLY. I’m taking a break to sort out all manner of terrible, wonderful things. Stand by for all possible action in the meantime.

-I’ll be salvaging material from the intended 009-1 and Skull Man reviews for Otaku USA’s website. In the interim, here’s my take on Mechanical Violator Hakaider, the other controversial Kikaider adaptation.

Through chance, Mike finds the time to chat with yet ANOTHER Mike: Mike Verta, the film’s composer! In this short but sweet (and exclusive!) interview, Mike tells R5 about himself and lets us in on what went into creating the soundtrack behind this epic new adventure in the Ultra Series!

PRODUCTION NOTES:
-This should have been out sooner but Christmas and deadline madness got in the way. I love my life ^^;

-There was originally supposed to be a third mini trailer for “Gothic Thunderbolt” but due to time, I figured I’d opt out for now.

-And once again, no graphic for this one because my Mac with Photoshop CS on it is still out of commission. I should probably start a “Get Mike A New Mac” fund >.>

This Time ‘Round: Revenge! Scarlet Kunoichi! The story of one Amish woman’s chance at redemption for her infidelities…IN BLOOD!

PRODUCTION NOTES:
-Originally meant for a Halloween release, this has to be one of the craziest ideas I’ve had yet.

-If you didn’t pick up on it, throughout the short there are references to both The Scarlet Letter and The Crucible, made all the better with lesbian ninjas.

-And yes, Anna’s speech at the end is indeed a throwback to Sonny Chiba’s speech in The Bodyguard…

….which was then referenced by Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction…

The irony here? That whole Bible verse doesn’t exist save for one sentence. Either way, I couldn’t resist an homage.

The second bonus installment of the R5 Central Otakon coverage. This time around, we’ve got quotes from DaizyStripper and MarBell. Both bands had the honor of playing at the Hide Memorial Summit but alas, Mike couldn’t swing interviews. To fill the void, here’s a nice little mash up with quotes from Saturday’s Q and A session with some of the best tracks from both bands.
